Social Development Consultant / Expert - Lyon, France

An experienced infrastructure consultancy is currently looking for a Social Development Consultant / Expert with at least 10 years of experience to be based at their local offices in Lyon, France (Other locations might be considered) as part of their Risk, Society and Environmental division.

Responsibilities will include:

• Bring your expertise on social issues in Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), for projects in extractive industries (oil and gas, mining), energy (hydropower, renewable energies) and infrastructure (energy transmission, urban development, port facilities, etc.) at an international level.
• Design Resettlement Action Plans (RAP), Livelihood restoration plans (LRP), stakeholders’ consultation strategies, community-level grievance management plans and local development plans in the context of involuntary displacement of populations.
• Organize and conduct regular field missions in order to collect socioeconomic data.
• Recruit, train and oversee local consultants and surveyors in the targeted countries.
• Implement participatory approach of stakeholder’s consultations (public consultations, direct interviews, etc.).
• Develop tool and techniques in order to improve management of projects ‘social issues.

The selected candidate MUST have the following profile and attributes:

• Holding a MA or PhD in social sciences (sociology, anthropology, geography, international law – human rights – or political sciences), you have 10 years of experience or more on similar studies and international projects. You possess a strong field experience in sensitive environments in Africa or Asia.
• You are familiar with quantitative (statistics, data processing) and qualitative (interviews, focus-groups, direct observation) social field research tools. Knowledge of appropriate software (statistics or GIS) will be strongly valued.
• You have a good knowledge of social issues related to infrastructure and energy projects (gender issues, vulnerability, project induced in-migration, resettlement, etc.) and know very well the environmental and social standards of international lenders.
• You have perfect writing and analysis skills and are able to work on different projects simultaneously within a multicultural and multidisciplinary team.
• Your experience and/or skills will allow you to fulfill consulting requirements (listening to client needs, building and maintaining a network of partners and clients, presenting and communicating clear ideas, etc.)
• Languages: French native-speaking or bilingual, you also speak and write perfectly in English. Knowledge of other languages are more than welcome.

The Gross basic salary on offer is +50,000 Euro’s per annum (reliant on experience & qualifications), they also offer an excellent package that includes: Bonus, Profit sharing, Family Healthcare, Pension, 5 weeks paid leave, Travel allowance, Flexible benefit scheme and relocation costs for the chosen candidate.
