Environmental & Social Manager - Asia

A leading and growing European renewable energy company are looking to hire 2 key positions in separate locations in Asia, to lead the environmental and social aspects for several projects in their region, 1 role is regional and covers several countries. The E&S Managers will be based full time in Asia, independently driving the E&S program and report back the European Head Office.

The positions involve identifying, alleviating, and managing environmental and social impacts whilst ensuring compliance to international standards such as the IFC. You will be engaging with local communities, local authorities, lenders, the internal team and business partners.

Main responsibility: 

Lead the development and coordination of Environmental and Social Impact Assessments and executing Environmental and Social Action Plans whilst upholding the company’s business values. In addition, supporting the appropriate execution of project related plans including E&S, waste management, ecology, stakeholder engagement, H&S, Occupational H&S and emergency response.

What you will bring:

  • University degree within social science, biology, resource economics or environmental sciences
  • Hands-on field experience with a minimum 5 years of work experience (10 for regional role) with environmental and social risk management of infrastructure or energy projects, preferably with site implementation experience from hydro, wind or solar developments in Asia, in accordance with IFC Performance Standards
  • Strong knowledge and experience of working with international E&S standards
  • Experience in handling social conflicts
  • Knowledge in the field, gathering information at all levels
  • Experience being based abroad is preferred
  • The ability to work under pressure and on own initiative
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Working knowledge of other regional language(s) is an asset
  • Willingness to travel
