E&S Project Manager - Mozambique

An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the environment and social teams in Mozambique for a new, large hydropower project. You’d be employed by the owner, a consortium of international companies, at the development phase.

You will be responsible for integrating E&S management principles into the project whilst gradually setting up an Environmental and Social team for the development phase, according to the needs of the project.

Your main tasks will include: 

  • Manage the budget for the E&S department
  • Liaise with the internal project stakeholders, including the Consortium members and the government project cabinet. Liaise with central, provincial, and local government authorities, as well as all other relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead the development of E&S safeguards documentation by E&S consultants.
  • In particular, ensure the inclusion of all E&S requirements in the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) selection and EPC contracts and agreements.
  • Work with the relevant stakeholders, including Lenders, to define strategies for resettlement and livelihood restoration, biodiversity management, benefit sharing and others as relevant.
  • Oversee the development of appropriate E&S management plans and procedures for the early project stages.

Qualifications & Experience Required:

  • Master’s Degree in a relevant subject
  • At least 10 years of professional experience in the E&S field.
  • Experience in the hydropower projects.
  • Project management skills
  • Fluency in written & spoken English + Portuguese or French; with a willingness to learn Portuguese

Salary & Package:

Negotiable day rate salary, the company will pay your accommodation and insurances + Portuguese language training if required. Initially, this will be a 2 year contract, based in a city in Mozambique.
